After Effects CS5
1 Reply

I know that CS5 is a ways off, but it's going to be an expensive upgrade, I'm guessing. And since Adobe is only doing a 64-bit version, I am wondering what's going to happen with our plugins? Will Red…Continue

Adobe ignores After Effects again?

Posted on February 1, 2010 at 12:59pm 0 Comments

Just saw this tweet from Chad Perkins:

"@chad_perkins Back from Adobe. Finally can tell you that the next version of After Effects is a WEAK upgrade (IMHO). But PS and AI will be GREAT upgrades!"

and it pretty much confirms what I suspected all along. Adobe has been very quiet about the features of AE CS5 with the exception of really pushing the 64-bit native aspect. They haven't talked about any other… Continue

Dollar killing the Euro?

Posted on January 14, 2010 at 8:46pm 0 Comments

The crappy economy in the U.S. might actually be working in my favor... I just picked up another animation gig from an EU company because of the exchange rate. The designer I talked to said they selected me first because they found some similar work I did, and second although their usual 'go to' animation shop in the EU could easily do it, my bid (which I did not discount) was more attractive due to the exchange rate.

I'm not deliberately trying to poach jobs from EU animators, but… Continue

Preparation

Posted on November 19, 2009 at 8:24am 0 Comments

This coming Saturday I will be doing another video shoot in my home studio with an actor I hired at the local college. So today I start making all my preparations...

1. Gather together all of my camera equipment. Lenses, batteries (make sure they're fully charged), tripod, monitor, etc..

2. Clean up the studio area so it's ready to go.

3. Check all of my lights to make sure they're working and the bulbs are fine. Make sure I have a few extra bulbs handy, just in… Continue

I think, that what is of most interest to those, who already work for few years in 2d compositing and do not know 3d applications too well, like me,is integration and implementation of cinema 4d camera rigs, different pass renders(e.g. depth pass render…

I don't think that speculation here is going to get you any useful information. I recommend having this conversation with Michael Coleman, the product manager of After Effects, on his blog. He's already got this conversation going over…

After Effects CS5

I know that CS5 is a ways off, but it's going to be an expensive upgrade, I'm guessing. And since Adobe is only doing a 64-bit version, I am wondering what's going to happen with our plugins? Will Red Giant and the other plugin makers charge a fee for the 64-bit version of their plugins? Or will they be a free upgrade? If they're going to charge a fee, that would very much impact the upgrade to CS5 overall cost.See More

Also... If someone would come up with an affordable plugin to make realistic fire, that would move to number 2 in my list. (Ahem, *cough* TRAPCODE FIRE *nudge*).

I don't think it's a schools job to teach you those skills, but I think that all schools should offer courses in business negotiation, etc... My psychology courses and business classes in college had nothing to do with my major, but I…

PSA for School Project

The wife needed a PSA for a school project. We shot this and she not only got an A+, but it was voted best by her class. We showed it to a local eye doctor and we're reshooting it next week as a commercial for local television.

hehe, nice. 3 days to 12 minutes, now that is some serious speedup :) . there is always stuff to tweak when it comes to materials and render settings, so before hitting the final render you should go nuts and optimise all you can :)

I graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a bachelors degree in Computer Science as I started out my career as a computer programmer. I didn't start doing video work until about 10 years ago. I've been doing a ton of research on finding an…

I didn't quite understand motion blur when I did the first render. I had the samples set too high. By setting samples down to 5, I am rendering it at 1080p now and it looks like the full 10 seconds will render in the same amount of time (3…

oh my, 3 days for this!? U should add motion blur in post. But if you still want to render it with MB you can compensate A LOT with AA and shadow/GI samples since MB makes things smooth.

Dave Navarro commented on Paolo Ciccone's blog post 'Survey: are you using 3D in your workflow?'
I use Cinema 4D and I chose it specifically for its ease of use and similarity in workflow to After Effects. The ability to sync camera data between C4D and AE is crucial. I love the new MoDyn engine and I've managed to get a lot of mileage…
