What Does it Take? Project

I've started a little project that I would like to really get rolling and get the word out. Many times, I'd look at a reel of a motion design studio and ask myself, "What does it take to work there?" I could imagine many other young designers wonder the same thing. So I took it upon myself to ask as many local studios in Toronto that very question and post their tweet-sized responses into one collection. Needless to say, the responses are trickling in. As you can imagine, a cold email doesn't…See More

I ´d say go get the Bamboo. I´ve got one myself, and I won´t be using a mouse ever again. I am using it on a 24" and barely have to lift my hand to navigate. I was looking for the Intuos 4 medium, but then again I just use it…

I love my Wacoms, but I reserve their use primarily for photo retouching and texture painting or just plain ole drawing. I might be the odd man out here, but I'm a trackball guy. I have big hands and I've never really been comfortable with…

Not insulting at all, I know next to nothing about tablets. Thanks again, maybe I'll look into getting a mouse instead. Those intuos' are out of my budget.

The Wall of Molasses - When Learning Gets Harder

Posted on March 18, 2010 at 4:00pm 2 Comments

I currently work at a small company full time where I feel I am not being challenged enough. There's work to be done on a daily basis but I'd say it's more tedious than challenging, and more annoying than fun. With that said, I'm well aware that in this career field, no matter how successful you are, not everyday is always going to be a field of daisies... if you're into that kind of thing.

I have been looking into freelancing as, from what I've heard, it's quite the challenge and… Continue

'You were born an original. Don't die a copy"

I just read an article by 'soon-to-be-at-the-AETO-meeting', Chad Perkins. And it was a really interesting read (link found below).

He brings up two interesting points. Just like everyone else, I'm a huge fan of VideoCopilot and the bow-at-his-feet, Andrew Kramer. I'm not going to regurgitate Chad's article, but he basically says that tutorials have become akin to recipes, albeit that the measurements are in pixels, rotations, frames, etc. And what's happening now, especially what… Continue
